#1 - DISCARDED THINGS

Right off the bat, let me tell you that this movie is B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. I promise you, this movie will touch your heart and leave you crying when the credits roll. The movie explores themes of grief, redemption, forgiveness, and the power of love to transform lives. The movie tells the story of a young woman named Grace, who is struggling to cope with the recent death of her husband. She becomes homeless and destitute, relying on the help of strangers and the kindness of others to survive.

The movie starts with a young Grace Wyatt in her teenage being raised by a legalistic pastor dad and a compassionate mother. When Grace is raped and impregnated by a Church deacon, her unsympathetic father blames her and refuses to hear her out and confront the deacon because “his checks keep the church doors open.”

Fast forward 37 years later, Grace has drifted away from the faith and her life seems to be going well. She is happily married to the love of her life and she is a music professor held in high esteem in the academia. However, when her husband dies, things go haywire as she becomes an alcoholic and is thrown out of the academia. Eventually, Grace seeks help, becomes sober and finds her way back to God. She then goes to teach at Devlin House, a place where teenagers at-risk are rehabilitated.

This is where things started getting emotional for me. For the rest of the movie, we follow Grace who faces several challenges as she struggles to work and minister among teenagers who are difficult, broken and hurting (who are discarded by the society; hence the name of the movie is Discarded Things). You will definitely fall in love with some of the characters you will meet at Devlin House.

Also, if you decide to watch this movie, you are definitely in for a surprising and heart-warming twist in the end!

#2 - THIS IS OUR TIME

This is a heartwarming and profound movie that will offer you some insightful thoughts about God’s calling for each of us and the role of suffering in our lives. This is our Time shows the lives of five optimistic youngsters, Ethan, Luke, Alé, Ryder and Catherine who graduate with high ambitions and burning passion to fulfill the call of God in their lives. However, things don’t go as expected when the five friends are suddenly brought face to face with an unimaginable tragedy leaving all of them broken and hurting.

The movie follows the individual lives of the five best friends as they strive to fulfill God’s call in their own lives. Ethan wants to go on to grad school but he is not accepted. He struggles with why God has him stuck in a local diner working under his dad while the rest of his friends are on the wild adventure of their lives. Luke and Alé answer God’s call and move to India to work among children. They barely begin their ministry among children and then tragedy strikes them. The rest of the friends struggle with why God allowed such a thing to happen to the ones who obeyed His call. This is an emotional and powerful movie that will speak to you as it did to me.

#3 - POLYCARP: DESTROYER OF GODS

If you wish to dive into Church History and witness the life of one of the greatest Church Fathers accurately portrayed onscreen, then this movie is for you! I assure you, this movie will renew your faith and reignite your passion for God.

This movie portrays the life and ministry of the influential leader, Polycarp, who was the disciple of Apostle John. In the movie, we see how Polycarp and the rest of the believers live in dangerous times when the imperial cult (emperor worship) is established. Polycarp refuses to worship the emperor and unapologetically declares his allegiance to Jesus Christ and encourages the rest of the believers to follow his example no matter the consequences.

Some believers deny their faith while many others pledge their allegiance to Jesus and suffer the consequences including death. At the end of the movie, we witness the emotional scene of the martyrdom of Polycarp himself.

The film explores themes of faith, courage, sacrifice, and the power of the Gospel to transform lives. It serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of the early Christian church and the sacrifices that its followers made to spread the message of Christ to the world.

I really hope and pray that these movies will have the very same impact on your life as they had on mine.
